• Ribbon synapses are found in retinal photoreceptor cells, retinal bipolar cells, and pinealocytes.
• The high-frequency cut-off is related to the packing density of the retinal photoreceptor cells : a finer matrix can resolve finer gratings.
• It allows to detect all the neuronal cell types except Purkinje cells, olfactory bulb mitral cells, retinal photoreceptor and dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra.
